albox

Only 30 minutes from the coast, Albox sits between the Sierra de las Estancias and Sierra de los Filabres mountain ranges, just a short distance from the Almanzora river. Amidst the stunning countryside of dramatic hills and valleys, olive groves, almond and citrus trees the town is in an ideal location.

Originally a medieval town, the remains of an old fort can be found on a nearby hill. Albox, was severely affected in 1503 when an earthquake destroyed most of the town. It is now a typical Spanish town with white-washed houses, narrow streets and small charming plazas.

bustling market town

Many of the local traditions still remain, including ceramics. Two of its famous ceramics families, Herminio and the Ends, remain today and their pottery factories still use the traditional Arab furnaces to bake the clay.

market day

There is a flourishing weekly market held on Tuesdays that is one of the features of Albox. The market spans through the streets into the Rambla (a dry river bed) and here you can buy everything from clothes to livestock.
