bedar

Despite its rural location Bedár is very easily accessible from the motorway and surrounding towns in the area, such as Mojácar, Turre, Garrucha and Vera.  Almería airport is a 50 minute drive away.  An authentic Spanish village nestling into the lower slopes of the Filabres mountains, approximately 20 minutes from the coast.

Its location offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding areas and the immediate mountainous countryside, providing a quiet and calm atmosphere and still retaining many of the original cottages which line the narrow streets and little alleyways.

fantastic panoraminc views

Originally built by the Moors many centuries ago, its growth continued when lead was discovered nearby in the 19th century. By the 1920's mining had stopped, although it re-started again in the 1950's. Over 200,000 tons of lead was mined every year and transported by a small railway line that was built between Bédar and the nearby village of Los Gallardos. From there it travelled by road to the fishing town of Garrucha from where it was shipped overseas.

good facilities

There are three good restaurants/bars offering a variety of cuisine and all everyday needs are catered for with a Post Office, chemist, surgery, bakery and supermarket.  The village also has a primary school and the municipal swimming pool provides residents with an alternative to the nearby beaches.
